A scenic resort with hotels and apartments in the town of Bled and by the edge of the lake. Many interesting and panoramic walks and tours can be started from here, which makes this an ideal holiday base. Lake Bled is the ideal place to use as a base with its modern town and hotels set around the edge of the lake. Used as a base other places of interest in Slovenia are within easy reach using local transport or organised tours. There is a pathway all the way (5.4 kilometres) around the lake and it is quite breathtaking and picturesque as the sun rises over the mountains and adds that early warm glow. Set on an Islet in the middle of the tree-fringed lake is Sveta Marija the idyllic Baroque church, belfry, chapel and presbytery with its grand staircase and famous wishing bell dating from 1534, is altogether a remarkable monument. which is reached by covered boats called 'pletne' which regularly travel from the shores to the Islet. Rad Castle with magnificent views of the lake and surrounding countryside, towers on a sheer rock, 100 m above the lake. The castle terrace offers a fascinating view of the whole surrounding country. Accessible by vehicles along the road or by sunny walking paths which is well worth the hike to the top.
