Perivoulakia
Travelling eastward, we leave the main road for a dusty track towards the lower slopes
of the eastern most mountain range, over which is the east coast. We pass silvery-green leaved olive groves and carob trees, grown for their beans, eaten by humans and animals, also the gum from these has a variety of uses.
As we ascend the lower slopes, spruce gives way to craggy rock on the dry windswept peaks, where only mountain goats and birds of prey frequent. Perivoulakia, nestling in a valley, the old and weathered buildings home to both people and animals alike, and the few possessions they own. Smiling faces offer a refreshing drink of cool water and freshly picked fruit to revive the weary traveller and wish you well as you go on your way.
